On May 10, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China released the import and export of China's foreign trade from January to April 2011. According to customs statistics, in the first four months, the total value of imports and exports in China's mainland reached 1,100.32 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 28.5% over the same period in 2010 (the same below).
Of which, exports were US$ 555.3 billion, up 27.4%; imports were US$ 454.02 billion, up 29.6%. The accumulated trade surplus was US$10.28 billion, a decrease of 32.8%.
Among export commodities, exports of electromechanical products in mainland China for the first four months amounted to US$319.76 billion, an increase of 22.9%, accounting for 57.6% of China’s total exports during the same period. The export of electrical and electronic products was US$132.9 billion, an increase of 26%; the export of machinery and equipment was US$103.71 billion, an increase of 17.1%. During the same period, the export of traditional bulk commodities grew steadily, with apparel exports at US$39.57 billion, up 22.9%; textile exports at US$28.93 billion, up 34%; and footwear exports at US$11.9 billion, up 22.9%.
Among imported goods, in the first four months, the import of iron ore in mainland China was 230 million tons, an increase of 9.5%, and the average import price was US$157.6 per ton, up 53.9%. During the same period, coal imports were 43.48 million tons, a decrease of 24.1%, the average import price was US$111.3 per ton, up 17.3%; soybean imports were 14.84 million tons, down 2.6%, the average import price was US$576 per ton, up 27.5 %. In addition, the import of mechanical and electrical products was US$235.25 billion, an increase of 22%. Of which 309,000 vehicles were imported, an increase of 21.5%.
