Cotton textile industry in Central Africa, including Cameroon, needs to be consolidated

According to statistics, the cotton spinning industry plays an important role in the Cameroonian economy. More than 300,000 Cameroonian families make a living from the cotton spinning industry. The industry created 11% of the added value of manufacturing, accounting for 9% of the country's total industrial production. However, due to Cameroon's highly reliance on the external market, combined with low production efficiency and low technical content, cotton production in Cameroon has fallen by more than 50% in the past five years. Experts said that the cotton textile industry in Cameroon and even Central Africa needs to be integrated.
