High unit prices in the international market increase Pakistan’s textile exports

In the first two months of fiscal year 2010-11, Pakistan’s textile exports increased by 23%, mainly due to the high unit price in the international market.

According to statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics of Pakistan, in the first two months of the current fiscal year (July and August), Pakistan’s textile exports reached 1.975 billion U.S. dollars, compared with 1.601 billion U.S. dollars during the same period last year, an increase from the same period last year. 23.34%, about 370 million US dollars.

Exporters said that high unit prices and rising world demand after the global economic downturn were the main factors that contributed to the rise in textile exports. In terms of export volume, some textile sector exports have seen an increase in exports. In August 2010, Pakistan’s textile exports increased by 24% year-on-year. According to the current statistics, total textile exports reached 989 million U.S. dollars, and the export volume for the same period last fiscal year was 799 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 190 million U.S. dollars.

In August, Pakistan’s textile exports increased by US$4 million from July, and textile exports in July reached US$985 million. In the first two months of the current fiscal year, exports of four products, including cotton, cotton yarns, cotton ropes, and tents, have declined in 12 export textile products, including knitwear, towels, ready-made garments, and bedding. There has been an increase in exports of art and silk.

It is worth mentioning that the textile industry is Pakistan's main industry and contributes 56% of the country's total exports. In the 2009-10 fiscal year, Pakistan's textile exports reached US$9.2 billion.
