Mexico Announces New Labeling Requirements for Textiles and Clothing

The Mexican government implements label regulations for textiles and clothing (nom-004-scfi-2006). The new regulations apply to garments, clothing accessories, textiles, and home textiles that have a textile content of more than 50% of the total weight of the product. Many products are not subject to this regulation, such as electric blankets, disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, wipes, toys made of textile materials, suits, furniture, badges, flags, zippers, buttons and clasps, laces for certain textiles Parts, some cloths, kitchen gloves, and cosmetic bags.

The labeling regulations are detailed and contain a series of requirements and exceptions. In general, clothing and clothing accessories must have a permanent, clear label on the collar, waist, or other visible areas. For hosiery, headbands, and wristbands, the above information can be included on the product itself as a permanent or temporary label, or on the packaging of the product.

Home textile labels must also include the above information, but instead use the size of the product instead of the size. The following products must be affixed with a permanent label containing this information: sheets, blankets, bedspreads, sheets, tablecloths, placemats, napkins, finished curtains, towels, mattresses, and mattress bases made or wrapped with textile materials. In addition to the bedspreads and blankets, the dimensions of the above products and the information of the manufacturers and importers should be included on the temporary labels on these products.

For handbags, suitcases, handbags, purses, suitcases, backpacks, umbrellas, seat covers, seat cushions, cleaning products, textile belts, diapers, canvases, dust covers for household goods, furniture and bathroom furniture, certain retail fabrics ( Fibers with a fiber content of 45% or more by weight of combed wool, as well as various other commodities, must contain fiber content, country of origin on permanent or temporary labels, and indicate to natural persons (individuals) The name and address of the manufacturer or importer; for legal entities (companies), the name and address of the manufacturer or importer must be indicated.

In the following cases, the above information must be displayed on permanent or temporary labels attached to or attached to the product: fabrics, carpets, wigs, bow ties, silk wool products (those that are too small (except bulk-packed goods) and disposables. For disposable items, this information can be displayed on the outer packaging of the product.
