China's import and export of textiles and clothing to Japan from January to May in 2012

I. Overview of Chinese textile and apparel exports to Japan from January to May in 2012 According to China Customs statistics, in May, I exported 1.8 billion U.S. dollars to Japan, an increase of 3.50% year-on-year. Among them, textiles accounted for 400 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 0.98% year-on-year, and apparel sales of 1.4 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 4.21% over the same period last year

From January to May, I exported 10.5 billion U.S. dollars to Japan, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year, 2.46 percentage points higher than the national textile and clothing exports, and 2.5 percentage points lower than Japan's global imports of textiles and apparel. Among them, textiles accounted for 2 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 3.46% year-on-year, and apparels accounted for 8.5 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.7%

From January to May, exports of yarns, fabrics, and home textiles in textiles were 196 million U.S. dollars, 256 million U.S. dollars and 773 million U.S. dollars, respectively, and they increased by 2.67%, -15.85%, and 4.17% year-on-year. Exports of knitted garments, woven garments and clothing accessories in clothing were US$3.711 billion, US$3.881 billion and US$649 million, respectively, and they were up 5.02%, 3.21%, and 9.29%. From January to May, the trade volume of cotton products exported to Japan declined in an all-round manner, among which cotton yarn and cotton fabrics saw a significant drop, which was a decrease of 32.19% and 27.73% year-on-year respectively. The increase in knitted garments made of chemical fiber was relatively large, with a year-on-year increase of 16.39%.

According to statistics of GTT, from January to May of 2012, Japan imported 16.9 billion U.S. dollars worth of textiles and clothing from the world, up 7% year-on-year. Among them, China imported 12.26 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 4.14%, accounting for 73% of the import market, a year-on-year drop of 2%. Among the top 10 import-source countries, imports from Bangladesh grew rapidly, with an increase of 68%; imports from Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia grew faster, with increases of 27.5%, 23.7%, and 23.3%, respectively.
